Week 2: 9/7/09 - The saying usually goes feast or famine but in Central Texas this week it was drought or flood. Since coming back from Maine the intense heat and dry brown vegetation everywhere has been a shock. I’ve experienced it before, but contrasting it with the damp, cool, green of the Maine coast made it more pronounced and, well, sad. This past summer almost went in the record books as the hottest one in Austin or Central Texas history. Fortunately, a low pressure system finally pushed the hot air out of the way and brought a deluge. Though it wasn’t drought busting since we likely need weeks of that kind of rain, it was at least a respite of some kind.
