Just found a great new fabric store in Austin. The Common Thread opened just a few weeks ago. The owner, Jeanie Brown, has a superb eye for fabric, all of which is displayed beautifully. I was so surprised that she had so much and so much variety so soon. The tall windows in front bring lots of natural light in so everything is really easy to see. She also carries a line of patterns and stocks thread and sewing supplies including pellon interfacing.
I purchased some exceptional quality black cotton for a current project (good blacks can really be hard to find) and some white rayon for dyeing. Her prices are very reasonable and the quality of the fabric is impeccable. I love going to The Silk Road and in terms of exotic and what one might call “fancy” fabrics, The Silk Road has much more. But I’m thrilled to have a source for whisper soft cotton lawn, italian shirting prints, and 54″ wide silks on the south side of town. Join me in supporting local business and stop by.
